Reflecting on my speech, I’m satisfied with the way it came out. Doing it in a speech format was very effective in allowing me to use the type of language I wanted to use. Also my target audience wasn’t one person in general and as the speech progressed I realized the speech wasn’t for just companies anymore but consumers as well. I looked back on Young’s and AOC’s speech as a reference to have a more layback but powerful speech. Like AOC I wanted my speech to reflect her sternness and urgency to find a solution to said problem. As well as using Young’s layback nature to keep my audience feeling like we were having a conversation instead of feeling lectured. One of the skills I realized I need to improve on is my researching skills. Especially with newer movements, some issues aren’t spoken about by newspapers or by some academics, so being able to find more about obscure topics is a skill I’d like to develop. Broaden my research beyond prominent scholars and old academic paper.
