Micro-Activity #6 Sataria Carter

Wollstonecraft is writing this article to draw attention to women civil right and voice. She is bringing to light that men cower from the reason of saying “its just better this way.” She is wanting them to acknowledge the inequalities of what is supposed to be shared.

I would identify Wollstonecraft DC as ” Woman Rights Activist” and she most definitely inside of this DC but is looking from an outside view from a different time period.

Quote 1: Men complain, with reason, about the follies and whims of our sex, except when they sharply satirize our headstrong passions and groveling vices. I would answer: Behold the natural effect of ignorance!(Wollstonecraft page 13)

Strategy: I would consider this strategy as informative

I find this useful because sometimes its not always about attacking the people who you intend your word for but opening their eyes to things they may not see.

Quote 2: “Now think about women who are restrained by principle or prejudice. They would shrink from an intrigue with real abhorrence,·but play with the idea because ·they want to be convinced by the homage of gallantry that they are cruelly neglected by their husbands;or they spend days and weeks dreaming of the happiness enjoyed by souls in harmony, until their health is under-mined and their spirits broken by discontent. If that is right, then how can it have been so necessary for them to study the great art of pleasing? It is useful only to a mistress; the chaste wife and serious mother should regard•her power to please as merely the polish of her virtues, and•the affection of her husband as merely one of the comforts that make her task less difficult and her life happier. But whether she is loved or neglected, her first wish should be to make her self worthy of respect, and not rely for all her happiness on a being who is subject to infirmities like her own!” ( Wollstonecraft page 19)

Strategy: I find this to be both persuasive and effective.

Wollstonecraft not only brought to light the facts that most women fear after turning a certain age and not looking as beautiful. As women were raised to be graceful and that her husband would provide but not of the constant insecurities and unhappiness she would face. This entire paragraph is useful in the way that she continues to subtly address the obvious but not be belittling the man. I truly enjoy how she makes her point but dose not make it feel as an attack. Her voice is heard and felt with kindness.

Jean Holmi Germain – Micro-Activity #7 – Alexandria Ocasio Cortez

Who is Alexandria Ocasio Cortez’s Discourse community?
After reading her speech, I conclude that Alexandria Ocasio Cortez always advocated for women’s rights; she wants the women to be accepted in society and that nobody insults women. According to her speech, she belongs to the women’s rights discourse community. She wants women to be respected. Because of the courage of women, their success must be encouraged. Alexandria wants to create change, and she is aware of the need for everyone to know the importance of women.
What is the issue she is addressing?
Alexandria Ocasio- Cortez is addressing an issue linked to poverty and crime because she has been voted to advocate for her constituents in the order they can have houses, get something to eat every day, and they are capable of carrying their lives with dignity. She has been insulted by a congressman whose name is Ted Yoho. According to her, this congressman is not the only person who disrespected her, the president of the united states said to her last year,” Go home” at last, she is addressing an issue of non-acceptance in the country. However, all these officials forget that the United States of America is a country of immigrants. Immigrants came to help the United States of America to get their freedom. In addition, Immigrants help to build so many empires, historical and remarkable monuments in the overall history of the United States
Who is the intended audience for this speech?
This speech is intended for women. They have to fight for their right to do not insult them anymore, and the society has to banish the culture of language violence against the women. The speech is also intended for rebuking the people who insult women, and she wants the women to know that she is here to stand up to say that is not acceptable. It seems crucial the use of these violent languages against women must be stopped. She feels responsible that she must help and fight these types of discrimination and that everyone must show respect towards women.
