Quote: “Oppression makes a wise man mad. Your fathers were wise men, and if they did not go mad, they became restive under this treatment.” (Douglass)

Paraphrase: The overuse of power on people can make them turn violent if not herd by the person in power.

Response:  What I think of this, is that history just repeats itself Douglass is trying to argue why do white people get mad when people of color get mad when they are not heard. When the founding fathers of America were not herd by the king of England, they responded with the same thing’s violence.

Quote: “The sunlight that brought life and healing to you, has brought stripes and death to me. This Fourth July is yours, not mine. You may rejoice, I must mourn.” (Douglass)

Paraphrase: When the 13 colonies became a country and became the United states of America people of color do not feel the same they feel they did not become free only white men did.

Response: What Douglass does here is say black people were still slaves when this happened, they didn’t feel freed from this oppression and tyranny they had been living

Part 2

Quote: “ladies and gentlemen, the distance between this platform and the slave plantation, from which I escaped, is considerable” (Douglass)

Response:  I find this very persuasive the reason being is because he is takes 2 places and says that its considerable and he’s taking a place were he has power to speak and inspire others while in a slave plantation where all colored people did was work without right. That was he does is very persuasive how things can change and that there is hope.

Quote: “Friends and citizens” (Douglass)

Response: This isn’t exactly a quote I could get from a specific part of the speech but this technique is used throughout the whole writing which Is repetition, and this can be a really good method to persuade the audience because as the reader starts to give more and more interesting points the audience will be more and more intrigued with what your goal is and especially if you repeat it in almost every point you make. So I say this was a really good technique used by Douglass.
