I am writing about the affect covid-19 has had on the mental health of college students. I chose to write a speech because I feel that it will be more personable. Based on the letters and speeches we have reviewed in class I felt more connected to the speeches. They have a better way of touching the audience while also being informative. I also am able to talk about my own experiences which I like.
Since the paper requires a minimum of 1000 words I divided my speech to four paragraphs with approximately two hundred and fifty words each. In the introduction I aimed to draw the viewers in by summarizing what has happened during the pandemic. I then wanted to begin to introduce the college aspect of the paper from the perspective of a college student. Some things that were included were about remote school, social life on campus, financial aid, and statistics of mental health of college students. Afterwards I wanted to have a more optimistic tone to my speech by discussing the benefits that have come out of the pandemic. I talked about the importance of community, time for reflection, and social media. The purpose of my paper is to be vulnerable and speak to people around my age. I was feeling very alone with my experiences during the pandemic and this was a way to get my thoughts out and be more productive. I have learned that by sharing my own experiences I am able to relate to others that have similar feelings.
