Overview

The only way to improve your photography is to take pictures. This grading formula rewards taking pictures consistently over the semester with the aim of making you a better photographer. There are lab exercises, discussions, and homework assignments every week. If you complete these conscientiously and on time, you will get full credit. Midterm and Final projects will be graded for quality and creativity with a rubric.

Final Grades will be based on:

  • Homework25%
  • Projects: 25%
  • Lab exercises and classwork: 20%
  • Quizzes:10%
  • Essay: 10%
  • Discussions: 10%

Homework

Homework will be assigned each week of the semester and be due before the start of the following class. Turn in your image homework to Flickr. You must share 3 of your best images with the class via the class group on Flickr.

Homework is graded on a scale of 5/10 – 10/10. 5/10 is a grade that corresponds to not doing the homework. 10/10 corresponds to meeting all the requirements for each homework including submitted on time. Late homework loses 10 points per week. After 2 weeks late, homework is assigned 5/10 grade. If you need to submit homework late, you must inform me when you do so.

Essay on a photographer will be submitted to my email. All other written material will be submitted on Open Lab

Discussions

Discussions will be assigned throughout the semester. They will require written or visual responses. They must be completed on the date due.

Projects

Projects will take place over several weeks with components due each week. They will be graded according to the project rubric which rewards creative and varied use of composition, good technique and participation in critiques.

Lab Exercises and Quizzes

Lab exercises will be submitted on flickr and open lab

Quizzes on open lab

Lateness

If you will not be able to hand in coursework on the scheduled due date, it is your responsibility to notify the instructor BEFORE the due date. You are responsible for completing all lab exercises, comments, homework and projects even if you are absent.

Points are deducted for late work unless a doctors note is submitted.
