Arduino
“SERVO”library
Jumper cables
Potentiometer
USB cable

Procedure:

1)     Plug in Arduino to make sure power light comes on.

2)     Open Arduino software and select the “tty usbserial” port under tools

3)     Verify that the proper board is selected

4)     Load a test such as the blink example from the basic example menu

5)     Load up the knob example under the servo example menu

6)    Hook up the Arduino like shown in the schematic and wire diagram

knob_BBknob_schem

7)     Upload the servo KNOB program

8)     Change the scaling value to make it turn in the opposite direction.

Results:

I was able to load the program into the Arduino and make it turn but when I turned the knob all the way to one side it short-circuited and the computer turned off the USB plug to prevent damage.

I was not able to move on to the next step but I was able to look upon my classmates projects and I managed to understand it.
