Journal 8 – Team Role

Our group does not have a name yet but we are the members of the class who are designing clothing with LEDs attached to them. My role is to figure out how to make the LEDs react to sound.  My initial thought was to find a digital spl meter that I could attach to arduino. From there the clothing would strobe once a certain spl threshold has been reached.

I figured someone must have already done something similar using arduino and an spl meter so I began searching the web and came across some useful info that could is a good starting point.

Another idea I had was giving the user a tap tempo witch where they can manually adjust the speed of movement of the LEDs. More info can be found here,

My main obstacle at the moment is complete this task in the smallest form factor I can achieve. For example, I would want a very small spl meter. The reason for this is because it will part of the clothing and I don’t want the size or weight of the device to cause the user discomfort.

Wow, it really seems as though you guys are improving on the original idea.

It makes me think of these websites for Do-It-Yourself projects featuring Arduino hardware

I also found some projects on the Ardunio Website itself

A video on youtube that could be what you’re thinking of

    Good Luck
