Throughout most of this week I have been trying to hone in on what exactly I wanted to do. During my time, I realized that no matter the final product I wanted to so something related to gaming in some fashion. At this point I started thinking about the type of technology that goes into the Microsoft Xbox 360’s Kinect Motion Sensor technology. I was always fascinated by the fact that you could have this small device capture your every move and have it be the input for a command in the video game.

I have also been wondering about making my own open source gaming console that is similar to the original Game Boy while Arduino hardware and software. I had finally come up with an idea that I could use motion technology as the backdrop to the type of final project I would like to create. Basically, I wanna put the Leap Motion Sensor technology inside a portable gaming console of my very own and see what happens from there.

The idea would be to create the Game Boy using Arduino Hardware and software while allowing the player the opportunity to use the Leap Motion Sensor tech to play games much like how they would play it on the Xbox 360, Playstation with the Playstation Move and the Wii. However, it would be a smaller scale and it would also be portable. It sounds like an unusual idea but considering how systems such as the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 nearly failed with there motion sensing products and no one has really tried motion sensing technology on a portable console (except for the touch sensor on the back of the PS Vita), I think it would be an interesting idea to try out. It would be pretty much Kinect on the go. And hey, Even if the final product turns out to be a failure, I will not know for sure until I try.

  1. I had no idea a device like this was actually commercially available, and for so cheap! I definitely plan to get one of my own. I do wonder how well it works for long term work – having to hold the arm, unsupported, in a mid-way position for any length of time quickly gets tiring!
