Journal Entry #4

Although i wasn’t able to go to Maker Faire and my internet decided to be extra special so i couldn’t really watch much of the live stream and what i watched i couldn’t make much sense of it. However, due to my awesome classmates, i was able to go to the Maker bot website and browse several projects.

I felt the joy of a kid in a candy store while browsing the website but the dread that comes with having to pick only one candy/project.

The project that picked my interest the most was one called Narrow Focus Movement Sensor. The idea behind this sensor is to use an Arduino to activate LED strips as a someone climbs the stairs in the dark. I couldn’t come up with much information other than the picture below. However, i see a lot of possibilities with this.

An example is building such a sensor to be solar powered and used exclusively for blackouts. Or to use it as a major source of light in 3rd world countries where electricity isn’t so readily available. Another one is to try to impress friends but in a green manner. LED strips could line a hallway and as a person takes a only the area where the person steps on would light up.  Also good for blackouts but mainly used to impress friends and or family.
