My name is Madellyne Almonte and the park that I chose and decided to discuss is called The Appalachian National Scenic Trail. To begin, it starts with the first letter of my last name which was part of my assignment and this is a place I have never heard of. The Appalachian National Scenic Trail starts in Georgia and ends in Maine. It is approximately 2,174 miles long and crosses 13 states. This trail is only open to hikers and along the way there are many camp grounds, picnic areas, cabin rentals, groceries, visitor centers and exhibits. This trail passes through 8 national forests, and 60 state parks. Approximately 400 people hike this trail per year and finish it, but there is the option of short and long term hiking. This trail was built by volunteers in the beginning of 1937 and is still being taken care of by volunteers.
