In the Spotlight: Open Education Week

Since 2012 Open Education Global (OE Global) has coordinated Open Education Week (OE Week) as a celebration and opportunity for those working in Open Education to actively share their achievements and learn about what others are achieving worldwide. The whole goal is to make all of this available as a community built calendar of events, all locally organized by institutions and organizations worldwide.

OE Global describes Open Education Week 2026 as the global town square (or plaza, piazza, alun-alun, центра́льная пло́щадь, platz, maydan, etc) to gather to meet, celebrate and exchange Open Education resources and practices.

OEWeek 2026 “officially” launches March 2-6, with OE Global collecting and sharing events, in-person or online, occurring between February 1 and the end of April. As of February 28 there are 228 events on the calendar, hosted by institutions around the world. See also the ongoing activities or multiday events.

As part of OE Week, the OpenLab team is hosting an open education show and tell session via Zoom this Thursday, 3/5, at 10-11am. Read the event description, then join to share something you’ve done with, on, or about the OpenLab or another open educational platform–or comment there with your contribution if you can’t make it at that time.

If you attend another session and want to share what you learned, consider adding a comment here to bring that knowledge back to the City Tech community.

You may remember that City Tech’s OpenLab won an Open Education Award for Excellence from OEGlobal last year. We’re grateful to be part of this robust, engaging community and to draw inspiration from the global open education movement.
