Oral Health and Hospital-Acquired Pneumonias (Collaborative Research Project )
In this project, my classmates and I researched how proper oral care can help prevent hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP). We looked at different studies to see how using antiseptic rinses and regular toothbrushing helps patients in the ICU and other hospital units.
This research was very interesting to me because it shows that a dental hygienist’s work is important for a patient’s whole body, not just their teeth. It taught me that keeping the mouth clean can actually help prevent serious lung infections in the hospital.
