Think about a time when you joined a new group activity (maybe a team, religious retreat, club, or workplace).
- How did you feel when you first joined?
- Do you recall a moment when you felt like you were part of the group?
- What benefits did you get from participation in the group?
- What can you do to help yourself feel like part of a group at City Tech?Â

When I started a new job, I was excited to meet everyone and get used to how things worked. I’m a friendly and outgoing person, so I didn’t have trouble talking to my coworkers or fitting in. I really felt like part of the team when we were all joking around and getting our work done together. That job helped me get better at talking to people and working with different kinds of personalities. And most important I learned more about myself. At City Tech I’ll just keep being myself and talk to people, bring good energy so I can feel connected and be part of the community.
When I first join a new group, I usually feel like a stranger and feel the urge to get familiarized with everyone else. A moment when it feels like you are part of the group is when you and the group are sharing important moments together. A benefit from participating in a group is that you get to be a part of a community. To make yourself feel apart of a group at city tech you can join clubs and create friend groups.
When I first started city tech I was very nervous and anti-social and didn’t want to be around others and I thought I would get made fun of if I sounded stupid infront of others. A time I recall a moment of me feeling like I was part of a group is when I was in my MECH101 Engineering class when I was doing project with my group mates. The benefits I’ve got from that was that I was i was a helpful, smart person they gave me respect for that. I think the one thing I need to fix is just my communication.
When I started my new job, I was excited to meet everyone because I think I’m a friendly person, but sometimes I get shy. At first, it was hard for me to talk to people, but my job as a cashier helped me get better at it since I have to talk to customers every day. I feel part of the team when we all joke around and have fun together. Working there helped me become more confident and social. At City Tech, I can keep improving by joining clubs and talking to classmates more, even when I feel shy.
When I first joined a soap club in high school I was very nervous and anxious if the club was a legit thing. But once I saw a ton of people there I felt relief and when we started to color and choose the scent for our soaps I really felt like apart of the group. The benefit from being in this club was getting free soap hand made by me or by molds but also getting to know new people. I think I would join a club if I had time to feel more apart of a group at city tech.
When I was younger, I was homeschooled and being rather extroverted, I craved peer contact and companionship. I joined the local Boy scouts troop, there I met several friends some of whom I have stayed close with other the years others who have drifted away. I’m actually going backpacking this weekend with two of them up in the Whites… The three of us grew up together going on weekend trips up in the mountains and we try to organize trips like this a few times each year to keep us close.
it was the first time I joined a basketball in middle school I was nervous being apart of a team but overall I felt apart of the team like a key piece I go when it comes to joining a team in city tech with my leadership skills and communication.
When I star my first job I was so excited and a little scare because I wasn’t used to talking or spending a lot of time with new people’s , I remember a time when I didn’t know how to do something and almost everyone explained it to me and showed me how to do it, and they treated me very well. From the on, i felt part of the group. Some benefits i had to from working there were gaining experience to do things I couldn’t do before and learning to share with new people. Something i can do to help myself feel part of city tech is to feel more confident doing things and have more self confidence.
The first time I joined a basketball club I felt a little strange because I didn’t know anyone, and I’m the kind of person who doesn’t talk much unless I feel comfortable, so it was a bit hard to make friends at first. I remember that after a few days we had to pair up for an exercise, and I was paired with a classmate who was more friendly, so we started talking more and more. During the activities we would always team up and practice together. I think something I can do to help myself feel more like part of City Tech is to make more friends and stop being so shy
when I first started playing football, at first I felt out of place however later on I realize it was my overthinking and if I open up and become more outgoing id enjoy the sport more and the surrounding of the community I was in. You learn that sometimes the problem is more of you and others sometimes and its good to be more open minded.
I was anxious and scared when I started working at Yankee Stadium because I didn’t know if my new coworkers would be kind, impolite, or antisocial. My uncle introduced me to the entire catering department, the managers, the logo designer, and nearly every employee on my first day. They were all very kind and courteous, but they were also very helpful when I needed something or had a problem. This made me feel like I was already a part of the team, which made me very happy. I always laugh and smile broadly when I check in or out.
I remember when I first joined a young sisters program in my community, and I felt really left out since everyone was already friends. Once time when by and we did activities and events together I eventually became close to some people in the group and it didn’t feel like a chore anymore. I was able to get free food and just do fun things like paint and make stuff. I could probably join the clubs at city tech to feel more part of a group.
My first day in CityTech felt like wandering the 7-seas because I didn’t go to the new student events beforehand and jumped straight into classeswondering around the building looking for my class. (My senses are bewildered; I know not where to turn). Every single day I join the battle, I get paired with random warriors. Though the introductions are kept short, we all know working as a team will let us win the battles, but not the war. Survival became second nature in these blood, sweat-covered fields. These experiences teach us the importance of teamwork and cooperation between peers, and sometimes u have to you to succeed.
