3. “Give kids a smile”Ā

ā€œGive kids a smileā€ – 4th annual pediatric dental screening at Chuck E Cheeseā€™s in Downtown Brooklyn, happened on Sunday February 16, 2020. Me and my classmate Alona A. volunteered to help with screening. Ā Our college and people from a few other collages participate in this program. We prepared information for the parents on different topics related to different kids age categories, tables with educational dental models, goody bags filled with toothbrushes, toothpaste, educational brochures for kids from 3 to 11 years old.

Parents with kids were coming to our tables, doctors, professors and we performed an extra oral an intraoral examination on kids, talked to the parents about nutrition, child habits, home care of a child. When needed give them referrals to dentists and also, we told them about our clinic in City Tech and what procedures we can do there.

I am glad that I had this opportunity to visit pediatric dental screening, it was a wonderful experience.

4. Greater New York Dental MeetingĀ

On Greater New York Dental Meeting 2019 my classmates, me and professors from our collage volunteered at kids program, we split into teams and teach school kids brushing, flossing, nutrition. Our group was responsible for nutrition part. We presented to the kids posters with cariogenic and non-cariogenic food, taught them a little educational poem about proper nutrition, let them play a little game where they have to choose what food is good or bad for their teeth. Overall it was more that 500 kids attending the meeting. I have a lot of pleasant memories from that day and unforgettable experience.

5. “Is your sweet vape flavors giving you cavities” GNYDN presentation

On Greater New York Dental Meeting 2019 we been honored to present our research project ā€œIs your sweet vape cause cariesā€ This was one on the most popular topics that time. When we started vaping was still new to society and people did not know what consequences it will have on health itself and oral health. When we prepared this topic for Wellness Fair presentation, we demonstrated that the study showed how vape effecting oral health and sweet flavored e-cigarettes deposit aerosols on tooth surfaces, this viscous aerosol promotes the growth of S.mutans and increases cariogenic potential. S.mutans releases the acid that causes demineralization of enamel and creation of caries. Next year for our presentation at GNYDM 2019, our topic was on the top of discussion, especially when information about ā€œpopcorn lungsā€ appears. We add new updated information to our project, our poster was very popular on the meeting, we even have a few people recording our presentation. This was an amazing experience; I am very grateful that I have a chance present on that meeting.
