According to a study released by Maryland-based consulting firm Abt Associates, the report found that businesses around NYCHA facilities (grocery stores, laundromats, etc) were replaced with more expensive shops and corporations during gentrification. This led to residents feeling alienated and unable to afford certain aspects of living, although rent remained similar in some cases.
