Periapical abscess

Ms. OR came to the clinic as a recare patient for a cleaning after a couple of years without coming to school. On the first visit, she stated to have some trouble with her anterior mandibular teeth. The review of medical history and assessments were complete and we also review the information from last visits.

On the past visit the patient was exposed to a periapical and a panoramic radiograph that showed a periapical abscess. The patient stated she did not went to a dentist because there was not appointments at the hospitals due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The abscess was not treated at that point.

Me and the doctor on the clinic decided to expose another periapical radiograph to check the state of the abscess. The radiograph showed the same amount of bone loss as the last visit and no new abscess.

The treatment plan was a full mouth SRP and the use of the ultrasonic on a low setting with the Slimsert tip on teeth #24 and #25, avoiding the roots. A referral was given for a consultation with oral pathologist.
