New York Comic Con 2019

On Thursday, October 3, 2019 I attended New York Comic Con and it was so good to be back after not attending since 2008. Yes, that is a very long time but I had the most fun in a while.I love comic books, video games and movies and to have all those things in one place and to meet other who share those same interests with you, is awesome! And it is also a great place for networking. At first, i was not going to go because I was going to stay home and do homework. But they still had Thursday badges and I got one as gift to go! Why not! All the weekend badges were sold out and those sell out quickly because people love to experience everything the 4 day Comic Con has to offer. Maybe next year I will be one of the lucky ones to get a 4 -day badge.

The Artist Alley is one of the highlights for me at New York Comic Con. I get to meet my favorite artists who’s art has inspired me over my years of reading comic books. I got to meet many of my favorite artists, but here are a few whom I was able to take a selfie with!

Gideon Kendall

I had the honor of meeting one of my professors, Gideon Kendall from my last semester at New York City College of Technology. He taught “Special Topics in Illustration” course which was a class of drawing real life. Gideon is very well known in the comics and illustration industry and I also had the chance of buying the first issue of one of the comic books he wrote and illustrated, “Whatzit!”. Loved it!

Eli Neugeboren

I also got to meet another Professor from New York City College of Technology, Eli Neugeboren. I never had him as my professor but sure have heard a lot about his work. I also purchased the first issue to the comic book he wrote and illustrated, “The Long Shadows”. Awesome read!

Marcus Williams

I was very happy to see this artist at Comic Con because I didn’t expect to see him! I started following Marcus Williams on Facebook because I am a very big fan of his vibrant style and how he draws characters that I grew up with. He comes with a lot of ideas where he mixes and matches different charcters. As seen above, that is an illustration of X-men’s “Storm” and Disney’s “Pocahontas”. I have watched many of his digital drawing youtube videos and engaged in conversation with him about which software he prefers when drawing digitally. He said he uses a variety of them but at the moment is using Clip Studio Paint. He also tried Adobe’s new painting and Illustration program, Adobe Fresco which he also likes. It was such a pleasure meeting him!
