COMD4900 OL90 35049 SP2021: Journal 8

For this week’s journal entry, it’s been coming to an end for my internship. For the past couple of days it has been quiet and a lot of nothing going on. Turn opportunity to stop by to the shop to learn more about printmaking and ] about the business side of my internship. Printmaking Is one of the things that I always wanted to do but never had the opportunity of doing. The processes are a little Labour intensive however results are satisfying. I had an opportunity to print a simple design onto a hoodie for a customer

Journal One

In my first journal entry, I’ve decided to speak about my experience in the search for an internship. Searching for an internship around a job has been incredibly hard due to the number of hours I work weekly. The possibility of acquiring an internship was very slim. Everyone through the multiple connections I have with all the professionals in the workplace was able to acquire an internship with an old colleague of mine from high school. Last year he started his business as a  print shop business and he needed a little bit of help in promotion and marketing his business. With my expertise in this for you, I decided to help him out, and then return we agreed to create this internship.

Gordon Parks Assignment

Gordon Parks was a photographer and director, who revolutionized the style of photojournalism. Many of his work was featured numerous magazines. This highly decorated photographer documented the good life and struggle of African Americans during the Civil rights movement. His work allows us to gain access to a world that’s was designed for the oppression of colored people. I thought from his photojournalism work, Parks was a highly respected fashion photographer.

Gordon Parks started his fashion photography in 1939 when he walked into a department store in Minnesota and requested how to shoot some of the clothing. It was at this point he began to practice and develop his skills in the fashion aspect. With his previous knowledge and “eye” in photojournalism, Park was able to combine it with his fashion photography to create images with a sense of relief and most importantly a story.

For my take on the take for this project, I have decided to capture a  motion and as well create a story. The story of “movement” as you can tell by the various motions of the model. What inspiration so this piece came from Gordon James Galanos Fashion, 1961. According to art website,  Artsy,  “Parks was one of the first photographers who preferred to shoot his models in real settings, their dramatic yet fluid gestures animating the clothes they wore. He didn’t necessarily focus on showcasing the clothes, but rather on giving a sense of the stories women could live out in them.” What is this statement in mind, I have decided to capture these do use fluid gestures to show liberation and freedom from a world that suppresses women.
