As you likely know, some members of the First-year Experience Committee, and more representatives form City Tech, spent one day at City College on April 7th to attend the first CUNY Orientation Institute and discuss/share orientation practices. We had two keynote speakers: Dr. Lynette Cook-Francis (Vice President of Student Affairs at John Jay College of Criminal Justice) and Dr. Felicia McGinty (Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at Rutgers University-New Brunswick). I am sharing PDF’s with their presentations and also some links with audio files of their talks (quality is not the best, but it should be fine). There, you will find what they consider the essentials of good orientation experiences.
Additionally, there was a discussion panel and breakout sessions, one of them conducted by Dorie Clay.
Overall, it was a great experience and we came with useful information to process and likely implement.
