1* The 4 selection tools in Photoshop are the marquee tool, the lasso tool, the quick selection tool and the magic wand. The marquee tool has different sub categories that allow you to make specific shape selections (elliptical and rectangular). Both the quick selection and the lasso tool allow free form selections, however they work differently. With the lasso tool you make the freehand selection by dragging along the edge while the selection tool works like a brush that detects the edges on its own. Lastly, the magic wand tool works according to color and pixels.

2* The magic want tool picks specific colors.

Question 1: The most basic use of Selection tools is to make simple selections of a particular area or object in your image. The Marquee and Lasso tools are great for making quick and easy selections of rectangular or freehand areas. The Magic Wand tool is also useful for selecting areas with similar colors or tones. Selection tools can be used to create masks that allow you to selectively apply adjustments or effects to specific areas of your image. The Refine Edge command can be used to smooth out jagged edges and adjust the selection’s size and shape. You can also use the Feather command to create a softer transition between the selected and unselected areas.

They explain in detail the four main selection tools used in Photoshop, including the Marquee, Lasso, Quick Selection, and Crop tools, which are essential to learn when working with images. The explanation of the Magic Wand selection tool, which selects only solid colors, is also helpful. Understanding the different selection tools and their functions is crucial in editing and manipulating images effectively. I appreciate the concise and clear way in which these concepts were explained.

1.There are four selection tools in Adobe Photoshop: the Rectangular Marquee Tool, the Elliptical Marquee Tool, the Lasso Tool, and the Polygonal Lasso Tool.

The Rectangular Marquee Tool allows you to select a rectangular area of an image. To use this tool, simply click and drag your mouse over the area you want to select.

The Elliptical Marquee Tool works similarly to the Rectangular Marquee Tool, but allows you to select an elliptical or circular area of an image. To use this tool, click and drag your mouse while holding down the Shift key.

The Lasso Tool allows you to manually select any area of an image by drawing a freeform line around the desired area. To use this tool, click and drag your mouse around the area you want to select.

The Polygonal Lasso Tool is similar to the Lasso Tool but adds anchor points as you click and drag around the image. This can be helpful if you need to make a more precise selection. To use this tool, click and drag your mouse around the area you want to select, and then click on the “Add Point” icon to add anchor points.

    1. There are many different selections tools in Adobe Photoshop that are all unique in their own way. The four tools are the marquees tool, lasso tool, the magic stick, and the quick selection tool. The marquee tool works by allowing you to select what you want with the help of elliptical shapes and rectangles. The lasso tool allows you to select what you want with a freehand selection, simply done by clicking and dragging the mouse around the area to select it. The magic wand selects the object or area, wherever you click. It selects things of the same color and other similarities in that area that is desired. And lastly, the quick selection tool selects an entire area all at once, detecting the edges of the object.
    2. The magic wand tool is the tool that selects objects based on color. To select more items all at once, you can increase the tolerance level and to select items in a small area, you can lower the level to do so.

    1. The four selection tools in photoshop are the marquee tool, lasso tool, magnetic lasso tool and magic wand. Marquee tool is used more for shapes like a circle or a rectangle and it can go to the size you need it to be. lasso tool allows you to trace the objects the way you want it to be. Magnetic tool picks out the edges and what need to be traced for you sometimes it comes out good but other times it can mess up the tracing. Last one is the magic wand tool which selects the same color that you click on around that area.
    2. The magic wand tool picks up only solid color and making the tolerance higher it can pick more of the same color in the area.

In Photoshop the three tools that can be used to make selections are the marquee, magic wand, lasso, and quick selection tool. The Marquee tool can select objects in the form of shapes, examples being rectangles and ellipticals. With the lasso tool, you can trace over objects you want to select in order to grab those tricky parts that are harder to grab with a normal selection tool. the quick selection can also do this, however instead of tracing manually, it’ll usually do it on it’s own with some restrictions based on how much you want to select. Finally, the magic wand tool selects an area based on it’s color and similarities. This allows you to quickly select sections similar to the quick selection tool.

The magic wand tool would be your go-to if you want to pick only the solid colors in an object or area, as it has the highest ability to separate it’s selection from what you don’t want.

    1. 4 Photoshop selection tools are, the Lasso, Magnetic Lasso, Magic Wand and the Rectangular marquee, all of them select in different ways. The lasso is a freehand selection tool, all that’s needed to be done is click and drag the mouse around something to draw a selection. Photoshop automatically closes the shape in a straight line from the first point to the last if you dont close it off manually. The magnetic lasso is similar in nature only, you can click once and just drag the mouse over to draw the selection you want to make. It detects and selects the edge of a shape and clings an anchor point like a magnet. The magic wand automatically selects an object or area of an image, usually of the same color and depending on the tolerance setting you have, you can click small or really big areas of an image in just seconds. The rectangular marquee tool is a tool used to make rectangle shaped selections within an image.

    2. The best tool to pick only a solid color is the Magic Wand tool. It selects areas of similar color around the place you clicked, if tolerance setting is high, a large portion of the image might be selected, if the tolerance setting is low, a small portion may be selected instead. It’s more commonly used to remove the background of images since it’s usually more evenly toned than an object or several objects in an image

    • Jabez Brisueno

I agree and like how you brought up the tolerance settings for the Magic Wand tool, as that also is a factor in seeing how much may be selected or not selected and can cause some issues if not know.

I really liked the way of wording your answer, you kept it simple and concise for your audience to understand. While still going into detail about how to manage each tool, your explanation is great!

  12. XavierV

One of the selective tools is the marquee tools that let you drag a shape over an area to select it. You can choose a rectangular marquee tool, an elliptical marquee tool, or two single line shapes. Another selective tool is the lasso tool that lets you draw freely around the object you want to select. The tool is not very precise. Another tool is the polygonal lasso selects shapes that consist of straight lines; these can be more complicated shapes than just squares or rectangles. The last one is the magnet tool that can help you easily rope up the specific object you want.

The tool that can help select solid colors is the magic wand. Click on any color in your image, and the program highlights all areas containing this color. It can make getting and changing colors real easy.

After reading your comment I like how simple you detail the tools purposes. You explained it very well, my answer was more short yet also simple. Also I agree with the four selection tools that you mentioned. The reason is because I also used those four selection tools as well for my answer and that reassures me that I’m actually learning.
