Hello! Welcome to m e-portfolio,

I am Nadia Alzghoul, a senior dental Hygiene student at NYCCT. Within this portofolio, I present to you my academic life and clinical experience from my time. Hopefully, it provides you with an insight of who I am and what I have to offer.

Since I was young, the medical field and the idea of working in health care always sparked my interest. It amazed me how one person was capable of completely transforming the life of another individual, giving back their confidence, making lasting impacts within their lives and providing them with a new sense of worth just by treating their conditions. Due to this, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in healthcare and the more I learned more about the various available careers, I found that dentistry significantly stood out to me. Unlike any other field in medicine, dentistry involves a unique combination of patient interaction, technical work, and visible outcomes. I was fascinated by how dentistry not only addressed disease but also repaired function, aesthetics and created long lasting relationships between dental providers and patients. It enabled me to view dentistry as more than just a way to treat problems, but also a way to prevent them and create more confidence through smiles.

Specifically, the field of dental hygiene is what captured my attention the most than any other dental career. In comparison to other dental careers, which mainly focus on diagnosis and treatment, dental hygiene focuses largely on prevention, education, and early intervention in patient care. They enable patients to avoid problems before they begin, improving overall wellness which is especially crucial considering how oral health is significantly linked to systemic health. I wanted to be in a position to help patients recognize this and take charge of their wellness which is why this career significantly appealed to me.

Additionally, as a mother, the biggest motivational factor of pursuing this career was to become an inspirational role model for my children. Obtaining this career isn’t just about my own professional goals but its also for my children to actively witness the value of hard work, compassion, and dedication to helping others. I want them to have the privilege of proudly saying they had a mother who worked in healthcare and changed the lives of numerous patients every day. By demonstrating what it means to pursue a meaningful path that contributes to real life differences of others, I hope to become someone they often look up to and think of when hearing the words strength, integrity and empathy.
