Activity 08 Description (due in #activity08 at 11:59PM on 04/14/2022)

Welcome to week five!

Hey folks. You know the routine: new week, new announcement!

(Good news – my rapid test & PCR were both negative, huzzah! More importantly, my friend Teghvir is doing just fine, too.)

HOW WE’RE DOING

We’ve just got started on Unit 02: Game Design & Interactive Media. Last week, we did group presentations, completed Activity 03. We’ve introduced project 1, the cumulative group project that will structure our exploration of game design.

If you haven’t yet, please make sure you…
… have access to the OpenLab site.
… have access to the Slack site.
… get everything squared away with the vaccination, cleared4, et cetera — see the student guide to vaccination verification and video on how to submit vaccination documentation.

TUESDAY, MARCH 01

We’re back in person! See you at Voorhees V-314 (186 Jay Street, Brooklyn, NYC) @ 4PM.

Review the procedures for coming to campus!

THURSDAY, MARCH 04

Before class: with your assigned group, complete section II of your group project’s executive summary.

FOR NEXT WEEK

Complete Activity 04 and post it to the Slack channel activity04 before next Tuesday 3/8 @ 3:59PM.

Welcome to Week Four!

Hi, folks.  It’s a new week, it’s time for a weekly announcement.

HOW WE’RE DOING

We’ve just begun Unit 01, Game Design & Interactive Media!  This week, we’ll continue our introductory lecture and introduce the first serious assignment of the semester, which will challenge you to develop an original game concept!

If you haven’t yet, please make sure you…
… have access to the OpenLab site.
… have access to the Slack site.
… can access the GMeet.

If you have any trouble with any of these things, please reach out to me or to our course CLT Chris Media immediately. Having access to these resources is necessary for your success in the course, and your success in the course is necessary for the course itself to be considered a success.

WHAT WE’RE DOING
Last week we had a quick and dirty speculative design workshop (class 04) and a guest lecture with Professor Christopher Chung, who is area head of Games & Interactive Media, then began an introductory lecture about games (class 05).

You can catch up on that stuff here.

TUESDAY, FEB 22
Group presentation – groups will be presenting their design prototype pitches, which we began working on in class 04 (2/15). If you have no idea what I’m talking about, shoot me a Slack DM or an email!

Activity 03 – due by 02/22 @ 3:59PM, to be posted in the Slack channel #activity03.

Participation credit for Activity 02 – if you want to earn a little extra participation credit, review and meaningfully respond to your peers’ responses in #activity02.

THURSDAY, FEB 24
We’re back in person! Review the procedures for coming to campus!

If you haven’t already, complete vaccine verification (if you have an exemption for medical or religious exception, you must have proof of a negative COVID test taken within the last seven days).

Student Guide to Vaccination Verification and Video on how to submit vaccination documentation.

Once you’ve done that, you’ll get an email from Cleared4, giving you instructions on how to access your Cleared4 pass, which you’ll need to show to Public Safety to get on campus.

This whole process takes a few days, so don’t delay!

We meet in Voorhees V-314 (186 Jay Street, Brooklyn, NYC).

I’ll look forward to seeing you there, then.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please, don’t hesitate to contact me via Slack or email.

That’s it! See you Tuesday!

Welcome to MTEC1101, Emerging Media Foundations!

It’s me, your instructor, Sean Landers.

Hi!  I’m Sean Michael Landers, and I’m your professor for this course.  Feel free to call me Sean, or Professor Landers, if you prefer – either way, I’m comfortable.

We’ve got an action-packed semester ahead of us, and it all starts here.   This OpenLab course is where I’ll be posting weekly agenda items, assignments, and other crucial course information.

“What should I do now?”

Great question!

  1. Please thoroughly take a look at the Syllabus pages. You may find it helpful to download a copy for easy reference, but be advised that the syllabus is subject to change — the Schedule page and other pages will be updated throughout the semester.
  2. If you haven’t already, sign up for the course Slack! A lot of our communication will happen here, especially in the first few weeks of the semester.
  3. It would help me do my best as your instructor if you could fill out this quick survey.   It’ll help me get to know you and your peers better, and help me plan more interesting and engaging classes.
  4. To get started on the first assignment, navigate to the Activities page and view the first assignment, which includes a link to the video documentary to watch, along with the instructions on how/where/when to post your response.
