Appearance Palette

Today, we will explore Adobe Illustrator’s powerful Appearance Palette. We will practice adding multiple strokes and fills to a single shape.

Homework Due This Class

Create a new Illustrator File with the following information:

  • Name the file – 01_LastName_Shapes.ai
  • Indicate three artboards
  • Tabloid Size – 11 x 17 inches
  • Bleed – 0
  • Change Artboard 2 to 8.5 x 11 inches
  • On artboard 3 create 18 shapes that have been united to form 6 final shape

Critique

Each week we will review homework assignments from the previous class. Students will participate in reviewing material and offering suggestions for improvement for their cohort. The Class will review Illustrator 3 artboard set-up.

Lab

Lab assignments are done during class time. This week we will find examples of two Vector Files to be shared with the class. Create a logo using this same technique demonstrated and post it. You may follow the written directions. Email the completed file: 02_LastName.ai to ProfessorNeuringer@gmail.com and I will place it in your folder on my Professor’s drive.

Discussion:

Each week you will need to respond to two questions posted. This is a requirement for the participation part of your grade.

Homework Due Next Class: 

All work should be submitted by 5:00 pm the day before class.

Each file should be saved according to the following naming convention. i.e., 02_LastName.ai (Illustrator).

  • Follow classwork sample and create a design changing the text and the pattern in the file in .ai  
  • Use “Deep Type: file shown in class. (02_Double-stroke text.ai will be emailed to you)
  • Replace text with your name or another title.
  • Fill the letters, stroke, and drop shadow with your chosen pattern as described in 02_AppearPatternsNotes.
  • Be sure to align pattern in the letters and the shadow so when it moves pattern is correct
  • Post and email your File Name: 02_LastName.ai to ProfessorNeuringer@gmail.com by 5:00 pm Tuesday, September 8th and the professor will place it in your folder on Professor’s drive.
