Space Description
Entrance: – The entrance is the face of the library; it welcomes you into a building of knowledge. The space has a short ceiling making visitors feel as though they were leaving the outside world and walking into a new dimension, one full of knowledge through history after walking into the “lobby” space off to the side leading into the big library space. On other side is the cafĂ©, which has a shared entrance with the library.
Staff: – This space is divided into two smaller spaces. The first space contains the information desk to check out and return books, ask for assistant or information. The second space is a break room for the staff, a separation from the business of the library. A window facing the east south east direction giving the space very relaxing and calming; quieter than the “up-front space”.
Technology Hub: – Libraries are usually very dark space but the tech hub in this library will be a space that over flows with natural light. Using a computer for a prolonged period of time can be very exhausting but allowing the natural light into the space along with an alerting or uplifting color paint on the walls will assisting in keep visitors in a good mood yet comfortable.
Children’s Library: – The children’s library will be a two story space, a fun place for children to be and enjoy learning. Shelves filled with books for children; various of genres. Large windows for views and natural light inside the space. The room will be painted bright colors decorated with interactive furniture for the kids to play with.
Collections: – Tall shelves filled with various genres and types of books, white walls and comfortable chairs. As followed with the other spaces, the collections or main library space have large for the same natural light and views of the river on the opposite end.
Support: – Several lavatories, 2 male and 2 female bathrooms for the main libraries, a larger bathroom/changing room in the children’s library and a male and female bathroom in the cafĂ©. I am considering putting more bathrooms on the 2nd and 3rd floors for the main library. A janitors closet is located under the stairs.
CafĂ©: – The cafĂ© can be accessed through the main entrance for the library with a secondary entrance on the adjacent end of the cafĂ©. A pergola covering an outside seating area of the cafĂ©. The cafĂ© has a calm vibe for relaxation; stress relieving.
