Give Kids The World

Give Kids the World is a village where families go to relax and enjoy themselves. These aren’t just any families, they are families with a child that has a terminal illness. All these children made their final wish and that is to spend a vacation in Disney in hopes to forget the illness they are dealing with. As a Disney College Participant, we get a chance to work with these kids for a day. These children gets to choose the volunteer that appeals to them the most as their best friend of the day. I was picked by a little girl name Ahmya and her little brother Darren. For the first hour we went to play mini golf. I was very happy to see that they are enjoying themselves. before we knew it, it was time to eat. As a group we went to the ginger bread house for our reserved tables. Sadly, after mini golf, Ahmya and Darren didn’t talk as much but they were very sweet and well mannered. When I told them to thank the lady who was severing them, they did with out giving me a hard time. After our little snack, we went to the auditorium for the talent show. I tried to convince Ahmya and Darren to consider joining the show but they were too shy to. After the show, their parents came for them and all the volunteers were driven back to our complexes.  This was a very fun experience and a very good cause. I decided that I would like to volunteer again but next time with a bunch of friends.

Florida Blood Drive

Each month, there would be a Blood Drive hosted by the Florida Blood Center in each complex. I’ve always believed that the best donation one could make isn’t money because people could easily take it for themselves due to greed; however, one can’t do the same with blood. No matter how you look at it, the blood you donate is going to help save someone. I think it is a very good idea that the Blood Center would reward those who does donate with a free movie ticket since most of the college participant are still young and wouldn’t think of it as saving someones life. A free movie ticket is almost the perfect reward to attract those who wants something out of donating. The only thing that bothers me about these nurses is their attitude. Compare to the ones we get from New York during a blood drive, they are very rude down here but for a good cause, they can be excused.
