My New York

I’ve lived in New York City all my life. I love the hectic city life and can’t see myself in those quite cities such as North Carolina, Rhode Island, Georgia, etc. Although the city is a very hectic place to be in, it forces you to stay up on your feet and focused. With that being said it has made it a strong city and has many opportunities for everyone. You can’t be scared and you just have to go for it. Walking through New York City is a wonderful experience. There is never a moment where you have nothing to do; I must say that’s one of the best parts of NYC.

Queens will always be where my heart is. I currently live in Elmhurst and nor do I plan on moving anytime soon. It is a very convenient place to live in because everything is so close.  I have easy access to transportation, such as the subways and cabs waiting in front of the mall.  There’s restaurants, commercial and service buildings everywhere and at close distance. There’re also lots of food carts by the mall. It is a safe neighborhood with many events going on in its major parks. Queens is a good place to go to get away from the crowded and rush city of Manhattan once in a while.

When you think about New York City, Manhattan is mainly the first city that pops up in your mind.  It has so much going on at once.  For example, the subways are for transportation but there’s always someone or something interesting happening.  You will find original people walking around and exciting performances.  The best part of it is that you won’t be judged. The city is so diverse that it is normal to see people that act or look different from you. Not only there’re performances in the subways but also out in the street. You can never get bored in the city.  Another thing you will see everywhere in Manhattan is the yellow taxis. The city is full of them roaming around looking for tourist to assist.  They will help you get to anywhere you need to go and even take you to places that you will be interested in since they know the city like the back of their hand.

Since New York City is very competitive, we are on the lookout for ways to stand out. We have to be the best at what we do. I appreciate this because we can learn a lot from the city and become strong independent individuals.  Yes, at times it can be stressful but you’ll learn to overcome your fears and you’ll succeed.  The rush and people motivates you to keep on chasing your dream.

New York City , a place where dreams come true. A place where people dream of going to. The city of money , fame, and tall skyscrapers. That’s how most people view New York, me however I have a different point of view.

I lived in Bayonne, New Jersey all my life. Bayonne is 30 minutes away from manhatten both by car and the path train. The path train only takes 25 minutes to get you to 33rd street in Manhatten. Theres another path train but that one goes to lower Manhatten and takes about 7 minutes. I’m so close to New York but I was never a New Yorker , I was always an outsider. But then again what’s an outsider to NYC. Walking in the street everyday you never see the same faces twice. People are dressed in all types of weird clothing and nobody judges. Not only that but its completly normal to get on a subway and see someone dancing or singing. You don’t see that where I live.

My New York is that live place full of good energy and vibes. The city streets are always lit and shining and people are always out enjoying themselves without a worry on their mind. I normally go to school early I go to college in Brooklyn and when I’m in Jersey it’s so dead and people are barley awake. However when I get into NY everyone is wide awake and very energetic. They’re always in a rush running up and down stairs as if their life depended on it. It always baffled me how people can be so alive at 6 in the morning. When I step foot into Manhatten I am forced to wake up and catch up with the crowd and keep up. I wake up right away and I guess NY streets has that effect on people.

Not only is NYC busy in the morning but its also busy at night. New York City has the best nightlife. From the bars, to the karoke lounges , to the fancy resturants. The possibilities are endless. I can honestly say that everytime I go into NY I have a new experience. Every single day I see or witness something I’ve never seen before. I call it the wonderland , and it has an effect to make anyone fall in love.

I’m so in love with New York that some people call me a “wannabe newyorker” and it’s true I am . I want to be a New Yorker. I love the positive energy in the streets. My New York is ALIVE. It’s not boring its exciting and adventorous. I love NY and probally always will .

When you say people automatically think of the Manhattan when you say NYC, I thought of buildings. There’s so many of them but hard to reach. Just like opportunities.

  3. I agree with you when you say that Queens is a get a way from the rush of the city. Sometimes its great to be in the city but then you need a quite place to get away from it all. And like you Queens (Elmhurst) is where my heart is.

  4. My Odyssey

For many years, my cousin had been trying to come to The United States by applying for the visa lottery

that United States Embassy usually offered for people in my country (Peru). My cousin’s dream was to

visit New York City; unfortunately, my cousin couldn’t win the visa after he applied for visa more than

ten times already, but I did easily in first time. For ironically that sounds, I never planned to move or live

in another country except Peru. Grateful for my luck, I abandoned my beloved country and flew to my

new destination without knowing much about my new horizons. My cousin’ dream was to come to New

York and live his American dream. He always told many stories about New York City saying that NYC is

the city that never sleeps and how NYC is an exciting city. I think my cousin was referring that NYC’s

stores are open 24/7 and you can get any service such as; restaurants, clubs and gyms open daily for

you. When I came to NYC, I didn’t have any friend who could help me out with my arrival. However, my

    cousin was well prepared knowing where and with whom he was going to stay his first days in NYC;

sadly he couldn’t come so I used his contacts in NYC to see if they could help me out for couple days.

When I arrived at the airport (JFK), I was supposed to see my cousin’s ex-girlfriend who never showed

up. Nowadays; I thought that one of the reasons why she wasn’t waiting for me at the airport is because

she was probably upset for all those years waiting for my cousin who promised her to come. Waiting 4

hours at the terminal 4 like an abandoned dog, I deceived to call another friend of my cousin and see

she could help me out. Finally, she picked the phone and told me where she was living a place named

Jackson heights in Queens. As a result, I caught my next train heading to Queens.

My experience taking train for a first time in NYC was unforgettable. I never knew that NYC has so many

different lines of trains that can take you all over the city, so I had the pleasure to ride in many different

train lines until I realized that I was lost .This was the first time I’ve ever been on a train and I was

surprised how long the trains were in NYC like a snake with a tail that never ends and also how people

in NYC board the wagon train at the same time like they were running a marathon. Immediately, I
caught a train at the airport and stared heading up to Queens which I never found because I got lost in

the labyrinths of the train station and finally I ended at the 42 street and Broadway. When I got off the

train station, I could see those glassy buildings that my cousin told me about it. I felt so tiny like ant after

I stayed close behind to those buildings. I was on shock to see these huge, tall and magnificence

skyscrapers around Time Square like a rockets going to touch the blue sky. Not only were tall buildings

but also they were strong able to hold huge, flat television screens all sides of its circumference like a

    cube full with colorful lights.

In conclusion, I was captivated of the power of NYC that I have changed my point of view about NYC. In

fact, I think NYC is a great place to live where anyone can chase his/her goals by working hard. So now I

am one who tell stories about New York City to my cousin.

I feel the same way that you feel about living in those quiet cities. I used to live in San Diego, Ca, it is such a quiet city, you have to plan ahead for a weekend you can’t have fun easily. I’m on the same page with you that New York City is the best city in the world.
