Advice to next semester students in ARCH 2480

We’ve had our last class. Only the final project and final exam remain. What advice would you give to students taking the course next semester? What advice would you give to Professor Mishara? What techniques helped you succeed? What do you wish you had done differently?

  1. I think that the students in the next class should always ask questions when they get confused and they shouldn’t be afraid to talk to the professor and ask for their help.

I find that repetition helps. The formulas and equations are helpful when done in repetition like how math is done. As to Professor Mishara, a packet with all the formulas would be very helpful to the students. a stapled packet that would ultimately become their bible to survive the course. Doing the work in class then reinforcing the work for homework helps as a study for quizzes and provide much needed credits.

  3. For students next semester, the advice I would give them is ask question and not be afraid to ask them. If your confuse, ask, we are all here to learn. Always seek help from your professor. She would gladly have office ours to help you out on anything you need to go over with. To Ms. Mishara, have a packet of all the formulas that will be used in class. And continue to do the format that the homework has been done this semester. The only thing I would change is not having other class that take away from my time of really putting 100% on my work.

For next semester I high recommend another classroom where one doesn’t feel their in box, because the room we are now really makes me feel lazy. Also to the next semester students to take advantage when the professor says she will come in and help your with any question. Also, to truly pay attention and not take this class for granted because what we are learning is truly important. To Prof. Mishara to keep giving the formula and chart sheet and to try and find another textbook to follow up on the lectures, I feel that our textbook isn’t really of much help.

My suggestion for the course is to try to make it more practical by giving the students more problems that are centered around a real life condition. Like choose a building or structure for the semester and figure out the beams and columns and stuff for that building/structure just as what we did this semester. My suggestions for the new students is the make connection to real life stuff you come across to what you do in class. This helps strengthen your understanding of stuff you encounter in class and outside.

My advice to the upcoming students in ARCH 2480, would be to come in with a positive outlook, ready to take on the challenges ahead. Always review notes and book. be on top of your work and defiantly ask and seek help when you need it.

For the professor I truly believe that students love to SEE in actuality what your talking about, so from props to videos to demonstrations to bring your lesson across.

My suggestion for the course is have course video record and post online, and put up lecture before online for view before class. lastly, diffidently a different class room!
