Brittany’s Final Log

I have learned so much in my photography course this year. I have always seen other photographers work, and wondered how they did it and was also impressed by the image itself; but now I haved learned the skills to do it on my own now. I have learned about the settings on the camera, which I had no idea about before and what they are used for. I also learned how to edit my pictures using Photoshop. I learned how these photographers take our potrait pictures. What I enjoyed doing most was learning how to do shadow depth of field, by moving close to the object and using a wide aperture. I think this makes the photo interesting to me. I also enjoyed painting with light. This course has showed me how to improve my photography and I am happy I can produce good pictures just as good as other photographers or better.

Botanic Garden

This is my favorite photo. The picture shows a shallow depth of field. You focus in on the plant more than it’s surrounding. To me it makes the photo dramatic and interesting. The subject is frontlit and sharp and you are able to see the plants vibrant colors and texture.

Brittany

Today I learned about rules of third. It’s when the picture is divided into three, the left right, and middle, and the image can fall into any of those three places. I believe it makes a photo interesting and you focus in on it more. To photograph rules of third, my group took a picture of the chair laying down over to the right with space on the left and middle. The place where the chair is is where you focus in on.

Brittany’s HW

The photograph I looked at was taken by Michael Kenna. It is a photograph of Gramercy Park on a winter morning in New York City. The photo has an extensive depth of field, but also has a soft focus. It is a serene and quiet photo showing no one, but the park covered in a blanket of soft, white, snow. I believe the photographer wants to portray the beauty and serenity of the park. This photo relates to the others in the same series, because all of the photos are taken in low contrast. Also all of Kenna’s photos show important and popular places in New York City.
