For our project on Bangladesh, we will explore the dynamic relationship between its geography, climate, natural resources, population demographics, technology, and cultural geography, and how these factors shape the country’s growing role in the textile and apparel industry. This includes examining the economic significance of ready-made garments, the concentration of production in major cities, and how seasonal climate patterns affect trade and labor cycles. We will analyze Bangladesh’s interdependence with surrounding countries such as India and Myanmar, as well as its participation in global trade agreements that impact raw material sourcing and apparel exports. Special attention will be given to its natural fiber production, such as jute and silk, and the preservation of artisanal techniques like jamdani weaving. Additionally, we will address the rise of e-commerce, digital infrastructure, and how governmental initiatives such as “Digital Bangladesh” are transforming its retail and technological landscape. Through this analysis, we aim to highlight both the opportunities and challenges within Bangladesh’s textile sector, including issues of sustainability, labor, and global competitiveness in a shifting fashion economy.
