Genre-based Writing for the 21 Century Multilingual Students
This Academic ESL writing course is designed to engage students on many levels: from composing to civics and multi-modalities of learning in multilingual classrooms. Students read articles that reflect the latest discourse in urban America and they blog their responses, views and reactions. Topics include contemporary issues in sustainability, urban farming, roof-top gardens, health and financial issues, as well as community activism. Projects include web research, shared reading/writing with the paired reading class, presentations, surveys and outside civic related initiatives, interviews and visits.
ENG1101 Comp 1101 (D352) Sg2014
This is a course in effective essay writing and basic research techniques, including the use of the library. College-level readings are assigned for classroom discussion and essay writing. In addition, we will utilize a new digital platform called OpenLab, which will help us to engage with each other’s writing and with the world outside of the classroom.
