The course will include investigation of the assembly of building components and methods of construction while developing proficiency in both analog and digital drawing building information modeling (BIM) techniques, and professionally presented construction drawing page composition.

A historical analysis of the city’s infrastructure, real estate development, municipal planning and ordinances and key building using the comparative method. The development of a megalopolis. Tracing the course of Architectural History from the village to the present role of the city as the commercial and cultural hub of the nation. This course will stress the dynamic socio-economic determinants emerging as a result of improvements and growth in technology, transportation, infrastructure, real estate, commerce, housing and recreation.

This design course will cover a range of urban and architectural design issues. Students will explore both the theoretical and pragmatic aspects of design applied in an urban environment. As an advanced design class, this course will incorporate previous studio and lecture coursework to tie together topics of urban planning, architectural design, environmental sustainability and historic preservation.
This design course will cover a range of urban and architectural design issues. Students will explore both the theoretical and pragmatic aspects of design applied in an urban environment. The reclamation of the New York City waterfront has brought city planners, neighborhood groups, developers, and design professionals together to chart the future of this valuable public resource. In this studio students design a master plan for a Brooklyn waterfront site adjacent to Industry City in Sunset Park that takes into account these varied interests. Students divide into teams that work directly with constituent stakeholders to understand their needs and devise a program for that constituent for implementation in the new project. Subsequently, students separate into new teams in which they devise their master plan. Finally the students insert an individual mixed-use building into their master plan that accommodates the program they and their constituent have determined. Students will use OpenLab as a forum in which they will post their research, share their ideas, and solicit feedback from other students and faculty.
