LIB 1201 Monday PM – Spring 2019 – Research and Documentation in the Information Age

This course explores research and documentation for all media formats including text, images, sound, and multimedia. Students will explore information issues, especially in terms of their relevance today: how information is produced and organized in both traditional and emerging media, how information access is affected by political, economic and cultural factors, and the ethics of information use. Students will also acquire the practical skills of locating information sources in a variety of media and formats, critical evaluation of sources, and documentation and citation of traditional and emerging media and technologies. Students will apply what they learn to create and present research and documentation projects.

Research in the Social and Behavioral Sciences

An introduction to the research methodologies utilized in the social and behavioral sciences, beginning with the fundamentals of research design, through data collection, analysis, interpretation, and the final reporting of results. Both quantitative and qualitative designs are examined using software to aid in inquiry and analysis.

“A course designed to develop oral and written communication skills which are required of engineering technologists in writing technical reports and in presenting their content orally. In developing writing skills, course work will cover filling out pre-printed report forms, learning the principles of formal and informal report writing and writing both of these types of repo rts, the documented and researched report, composing letters and writing resumes. In developing speaking skills, course work includes expressing ideas clearly and concisely in oral reports, organizing information and summarizing. This course develops students’ writing and speaking skills through assigned readings and performances in both areas.”
