I am a transfer student from University of Michigan where I earned my Bachelor’s in economics and international studies. After working 5 plus years in marketing, I am hoping to make a transition to the creative end of advertising upon completion of my Bachelor’s in arts and advertising.

Advanced web design is a continuation of ADV2450 Web I, a prerequisite of this course. Students will study, in further detail, HTML and CSS to ensure that they have a solid foundation. It is assumed that students have a solid grasp of Photoshop and Illustrator, and understand the proper web design workflow. The course is focused on completing a web site, designing and building it, as well as writing all the content for the site. A portfolio site is not appropriate for the final project, and will not be acceptable. Search Engine Optimization, Analytics, and web marketing strategies will be reviewed, and implemented. This is an intensive course in design and development of dynamic websites. The course offers a combination of theoretical and practical information on how to combine the PHP scripting language with the MySQL database to produce dynamic web content. Students are expected to have intermediate to expert skills in HTML and CSS. The goal of the course is to give students the experience of designing dynamic web content and demonstrate tasks such as generating images dynamically, sending and managing email, facilitating user discussions and managing content. The purpose is to learn a professional approach to website conceptualization and execution.

This course develops of each student’s personal portfolio of design projects to use to enter the design profession.

COMD 2450 Web Design 1

A required course for all Advertising Design and Graphic Arts students. Topics include creative user interface design and best workflow practice. Students will design a website using an (X)HTML template, and will develop design, typography and web programming skills. (X)HTML and CSS will be taught.

COMD3562 UX & UI Design, FA2015

Building on skills learned in COMD 3551, topics include advanced CSS, Javascript and Flash integration. Students work with clients to design and construct a professional working website following contemporary web and accessibility standards. Software such as Dreamweaver and Flash are used for construction and maintenance. A working knowledge of XHTML and CSS is required. Prequisite: COMD 2450.
