This historical survey of architecture covers the period from early civilizations to the arrival of the Industrial Revolution. Architecture is understood as an expression of the culture and life of a society, and each class session considers architectures from around the world within their social, historical, and spatial contexts. While the history of Western architecture is covered from the Egyptian to the Enlightenment, a special focus is directed to the architectures of the Far East, South Asia, Africa, pre-Columbian Latin America, the Islamic World, and elsewhere to provide a comprehensive overview of the richness and diversity of architecture as a cultural artifact.

This workshop focuses on helping new students transition to college life, and specifically to City Tech. The workshop will enhance the New Student Connection with additional information, activities, and various opportunities to connect with faculty, staff, and current City Tech students. In addition to learning how to access a variety of college services and resources, students will develop personalized plans for their college career.

This is a course in reading, writing, and conducting research in multiple genres to learn genre awareness and transferable writing skills. You will develop strategies for composing in contemporary environments through practice and revision of project-based assignments. This course SATISFIES REQUIRED CORE- ENGLISH COMPOSITION Pre-requisite: CUNY proficiency in English This course is part of a First Year Learning Community with City Tech 101 for students in Built Environment majors.
