This is a course in effective essay writing and basic research techniques, including the use of the library. College-level readings are assigned for classroom discussion and essay writing. In addition, we will utilize a new digital platform called OpenLab, which will help us to engage with each other’s writing and with the world outside of the classroom.

The main topics are:Solving equations & inequalities involving absolute value; Functions (domain,range, sum, diff., product, quotient, Inverse, & composition); Polynomials(graphing, determine the roots, & relative extreme); Sketch & graph polynomials, rational, exponential and logarithmic functions. Solving polynomial,rational and absolute value inequalities;Trigonometric functions(amplitude,period, half and double angle formulas, solving trigonometric equations; Complex numbers, vectors, Arithmetic & geometric sequences etc.Terms of binomial expansion using Binomial Theorem.

This is a course in writing skills focusing on composing the essay, including revision and proofreading, designed to prepare students for credit-level writing courses. The course emphasizes instruction in advanced and varied sentence patterns, appropriate punctuation and grammar, and the use of the dictionary to investigate word formation and further develop vocabulary. Short readings will be studied as models to illustrate methods of development and organization.
