A journey, an adventure, a path for creative thinkers, graphic designers to take to be prepared for real-world situations, regarding production print, printing and the re-birth of the printing trades.

In this course, students will explore and develop several kinds of information graphics (data graphics, visual explanations, way finding systems) as well as exhibition design. We will touch on the history of info graphics and will find ways they are appearing in new technology. This course is thought-provoking, encouraging students to stretch their minds into new territory while drawing upon basic skills of typography, color and composition.

This course will explore studio photography as a means to communicate ideas. Students will learn to use lighting to transform subject matter into metaphor, mood and meaning as well as how to develop visual coherence within a group of images. Students will develop portfolio level projects that display conceptual thinking and mastery of the craft of photography.

An upper level literature course that studies representations of the undead in popular fiction, film, and television. Students will grasp the historical backgrounds of popular representations of the undead in order to put popular culture myths into literary, rhetorical, and cultural contexts. Students will also investigate the relationship between the undead and the living in order to understand America’s fascination with inhuman beings and to problematize Western anthropocentrism. Students also analyze and discuss a wide range of cultural artifacts, study a variety of writing models, and practice both individual and collaborative research, writing, and presentation.

The emphasis will be on using style to transform subject matter in order to communicate ideas. The first half of the semester will use still life photography to explore photographic style while the second half of the semester will focus outdoor work including street photography, urban landscape and on-location work. Students will be exposed to a wide range of contemporary photographers from a range of genres. Advanced digital darkroom, color correction, and color management procedures will be covered in addition to facilitate students’ professional-level portfolio development.
