This is an intensive course covering the planning, design and build of dynamic websites. We will learn all that goes into the process of making a website, from learning and understanding client needs; molding those needs into a comprehensive game plan; creating an attractive and use-centric design; and using current technologies to bring it all together into a fully operational website. Students should have experience with HTML and CSS, a basic understanding of how web hosting and domains work, and a total openness to new ideas.

Students are required to find internship opportunities of approximately eight hours per week at an Industry segment site approved by the Department Internship instructor. Approved companies include advertising agencies, graphic design firms, corporate design, Publishing art departments, Printing design or marketing departments, photography or illustration studios and TV or multimedia production companies. Students will be required to keep a learning journal of their internship in the form of a blog using Openlab. A portion of the class will be devoted to presenting and sharing experiences with classmates. Students will learn how to assess their talents, update their resume, and market themselves and their work through using various platforms including social media. Students will be required to setup and maintain at least two social media networks such as: Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest.

Web 3 – Fall 2015 – COMD 3652-E270

This is an intensive course in design and development of dynamic websites. The course offers a combination of theoretical and practical information on how to combine the PHP scripting language with the MySQL database to produce dynamic web content. Students are expected to have intermediate to expert skills in HTML and CSS. The goal of the course is to give students the experience of designing dynamic web content and demonstrate tasks such as generating images dynamically, sending and managing email, facilitating user discussions and managing content. The purpose is to learn a professional approach to website conceptualization and execution.
