Louis Chugranis began teaching in 2006, and has more than fifteen years of experience teaching technology classes at both the middle school and high school levels. Prior to becoming a teacher, Chugranis worked as a designer in offices and studios in New York and Los Angeles. Chugranis’ design experience includes buildings, landscapes, and furniture, which contribute to his holistic design approach and inform his pedagogy when teaching students design, drawing, and woodworking. Chugranis is particularly interested in addressing and investigating issues of sustainability and responsible use of resources with students and in his studio practice. Chugranis enjoys working with students in the CAD lab and in the woodshop, as well as in the courtyard garden and in the greenhouse, and encourages his students to work with their heads and their hands and their hearts.

“As an educator, I believe in balancing critical inquiry with skill development. My work is teaching students how to use their intellect and utilize their skills to problem-solve; this is both challenging and immensely rewarding. Using the left brain and the right brain to engage in the design process prepares my students to understand and improve themselves and society. I serve as a guide for students as they explore problems that require designed and fabricated solutions.”

Louis Chugranis completed his Bachelor of Science at Cornell University and his Master of Science at Columbia University.
