My name is Laiba Choudhary and I am currently a sophomore attending New York City College of Technology (NYCCT), a Bridges Scholar Cohort 3. I am looking forward to pursuing a biomedical research career in Biology. I would like to achieve a Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences then I would like to work towards PhD degree in biomedical sciences to continue academic research roles. I am interested in investigating the human body: how it works, diseases, and possible treatments to cure or improve those diseases. This interest first developed in my sophomore year of high school when I joined an internship at the SUNY Downstate Health Science Academy. The academy was an after school program, a commitment of three years and was held at the SUNY Downstate Medical Center, where every semester was a different area of health taught on a college level: anatomy and physiology, cardiology, neurology, etc. While we were learning the areas of health, we were also learning about cultural competency, health disparities, and research skills. I was inspired by the academy instructors, medical students, nursing students, and our mentors that shared their experience in having interest in pursuing careers in health science. it is used or consumed by patients. It is because of this background that I am hoping to research furthermore and discover more about the human body and diseases, inspiring others and making a different in the world.

Strengthening Research Interactions through Digital Expression (STRIDE)

STRIDE is a digital infrastructure using the OpenLab platform that converges a variety of science resources and applications bearing a capacity for enriched engagement in research, and community building. More that a mere website for the NIH Bridges to the Baccalaureate at City Tech, it will contains the following components: • A resource center of digital presentations of faculty mentors research interests/profiles. • A multimedia library of faculty/student research project presentations. • An online journal of students’ scholarly works in research including the sharing of conference abstracts and papers. • Digital platform for an interactive research community that includes online social media.
