This course introduces the foundations of discrete mathematics as they apply to computer science, focusing on providing a solid theoretical foundation for further work. Topics include functions,relations, sets, simple proof techniques, Boolean algebra, propositional logic, elementary number theory, writing, analyzing and testing algorithms.

This course introduces the foundations of discrete mathematics as they apply to computer science, focusing on providing a solid theoretical foundation for further work. Topics include functions,relations, sets, simple proof techniques, Boolean algebra, propositional logic, elementary number theory, writing, analyzing and testing algorithms.

The course will focus on how students communicate technical and scientific information to a variety of audiences through written and oral presentations, using electronic media such as the Internet, Power Point and graphics programs. Students also analyze readings in science and technology, study technical writing models and practice collaborative research and presentation.

Students will demonstrate a familiarity with psychological testing, performance appraisal, training and development, work teams, organizational development, and methodology and statistical logic as relevant to industrial/organizational behavior. Other topics include worker motivation, leadership, and group and organizational dynamics, affirmative action, sexual harassment, downsizing, mergers and acquisitions, stress in the workplace, union/management relations, and a variety of work-related ethical and mental health concerns.
