This course covers basic digital imaging terminology and techniques including size, resolution, color space, file elements, measurements, file formats, and scanning software and hardware. Class projects require students to explore the meaning of communication through design and how it correlates with client satisfaction and target audience. This course challenges students to integrate foundational design skills with conceptual thinking to develop creative solutions. Students explore art direction, copywriting, and visual storytelling through project-based assignments while considering the relationship between a brand, its target audience, and campaign objectives. Emphasis is placed on idea generation, design execution, and professional presentation.

Students develop skills in two-dimensional design, color mixing, and content creation while employing the design process of research, sketching, and experimentation. Communication designers use the concepts explored in this course in disciplines such as advertising, graphic design, web design, illustration, broadcast design, photography, and game design.
