This course will review and assess health and social welfare policies and programs in order to provide the foundation for applied social welfare policy analysis and intervention. The course will define and utilize multiple analytical frameworks to examine the interactive nature of organizational, political, judicial, and economic principles on health and social welfare policy. The diversity of client populations and their respective needs will be considered as part of an overview of historic and current health and social welfare policies, programs and intervention strategies.

This course builds on the knowledge of counseling theories established in HUS 1201, Elements of Counseling. The focus is on the development of practice skills used in human services agencies.
