David Henry’s Profile
Communication Design, History, Comparative Politics, Urban Planning
David Henry is a multidisciplinary designer with over 20 years of experience in graphic design, print production, and branding. His work spans the luxury retail, real estate, hospitality, and professional services sectors, where he has developed high-impact visual communications and led creative teams across digital, print, and environmental media.
He has held creative roles at Jo Malone London and The Seventh Art, where he worked on campaigns that blended strategic storytelling with bold visual execution. At Karp Strategies, David served as Graphic Design and Communications Associate, leading branding and marketing initiatives, managing cross-functional teams, and building scalable systems for visual content and campaign strategy. He currently works as a freelance designer, partnering with clients to develop core business content, compelling visual identities, and strategic communications.
David holds a B.A. History with a minor in Studio Art from the University of Rochester, a post-baccalaureate major in Graphic Design from Edgewood College, a Master of Urban Planning from Hunter College, and a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies from the CUNY Graduate Center, with a concentration in global cities and migration.
His academic research spans urban policy, immigrant entrepreneurship, and the political dimensions of housing. He published Small Business Formation in New York’s Middle Eastern Immigrant Communities in Hunter College’s Urban Review, examining how immigrant-owned businesses contribute to local economies. His graduate thesis, Clientelism and Democracy in Turkey and Mexico (https://academicworks.cuny.edu/gc_etds/3377/), explored how political parties exploit housing tenure in informal settlements to consolidate power, highlighting the role of state institutions in democratic development. His current research interests include the relationship between media and democracy, drawing on thinkers like Marshall McLuhan and Marshall Berman to explore how design and communication shape political regimes.
As a dyslexic designer, David is especially passionate about visual communication as a tool for clarity, accessibility, and engagement.
