This course is a practical introduction to the field of illustration. Focus will be places on process work and professional practices, presented within contemporary and historical context. Course includes projects and lectures in a variety of illustration genres including: product design and advertising, storyboard, book illustration, editorial illustration, and institutional illustration. A variety of materials will be introduced through lectures and demonstrations for use on assignments such as: pencil, pen and ink, brush, colored pencil, brush and paint, and collage. Critical concepts such as: Conceptual Development, Working on Assignment, Composition, Contrast, Value, Point of View, and Color theory will be introduced. 3 Credits, 4 Hours (1 lecture, 3 lab) ENG 092R (ESOL 032R) and/or ENG 092W (ESOL 031W) as required.

This class establishes a solid foundation in essential web design techniques, covering the Document Object Model, contemporary web standards (HTML5 and CSS3), coding workflow, and site management/administration. Over the course of the semester, students will use new techniques to improve and add features to a series of iterative projects, culminating with a personal portfolio website.

During the semester, students will complete three pages of their own ePortfolio web site. Lectures will provide students with a historical perspective of the graphic communications field as well as discussing current practices and future trends.

Introduces a variety of basic layouts and formats, building technical and practical fluency in setting and working with type for both print and screen. This course further explores topics learned in COMD 1127 Type and Media, such as typeface selection and the use of the typographical grids. Problem-solving for most common typographical problems is discussed.
