BLACK THEATRE AFR 1321/Sec D838 SP2020 Mon-Wed 11:30AM

BLACK THEATRE AFR 1321/Sec D838 SP2020 Mon-Wed 11:30AM

A study of African American dramatic literature to explore the complex ways in which the black experience is constructed and presented by playwrights. Students may have an opportunity to experience a theatrical production in New York City. More specifically, this course is divided into distinct sections. It includes a historical overview of early Black theatre throughout the diaspora. It considers how mid-twentieth century playwrights like Lorraine Hansberry, James Baldwin, Leroi Jones/Amiri Baraka, and Ntozake Shange shape the aesthetics and discourses within Black theatre, and in doing so, create trajectories for contemporary Black playwrights, who also explore the social, political and cultural experiences of Africana people.

MAT 1630 Introduction to Computational Science, FA2019

MAT 1630 Introduction to Computational Science, FA2019

A project-based introduction to computational thinking and problem solving. Covers a wide range of topics, including data visualization, statistical techniques, simulations of dynamical systems, computational techniques to understand data, using regression to fit models to data, as well as an introduction to some more advanced topics: Monte Carlo simulations, optimization, dynamic programming, image processing, natural language processing, geospatial data analysis and current data science.

My Projects

Winter Python Workshop 2018

Winter Python Workshop 2018

Python is a popular programming language that emphasizes readability. In this four-day workshop, we will cover the basics in python and spend time on interesting applications in mathematics, biology, statistics, and more.

My Clubs

CityTech Math Club

CityTech Math Club

Weekly math seminar with presentations accessible to undergraduates.

The National Society of Black Engineers

The National Society of Black Engineers

The society’s mission is to increase the number of culturally responsible Black Engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community

Math Club

Math Club

What do mathematicians do? Can mathematics be fun and interesting? Do you like free pizza? The Math Club is open to everyone with an interest in logic puzzles, games of chance or strategy, and mathematics in general. We host a variety of math related events, math talks, math games, math puzzles, field trips, math competitions, and more. Feel free to stop by on Thursdays in Namm N719, from 1-2pm.

NSF-LSAMP

NSF-LSAMP

The Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation Program is funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF). LSAMP or AMP aims to increase the percentage of CUNY students enrolled in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) majors who conduct faculty mentored research prior to graduating or entering industry. Participants of LSAMP receive a stipends up to $4000. The funding is great, but the research experience (locally and abroad) and recommendation letters that participants receive are greater.
