Data Mining and Big Data Analytics
Dr. Ashwin Satyanarayana is currently an Associate Professor with the Department of Computer Systems Technology, New York City College of Technology (CUNY). Prior to this, Dr. Satyanarayana was a Research Scientist at Microsoft in Seattle from 2006 to 2012, where he worked on several Big Data problems including Query Reformulation on Microsoft’s search engine Bing. He holds a PhD in Computer Science (Data Mining) from SUNY, with particular emphasis on Data Mining and Big data analytics. He has four patents in the area of Search Engine research. He is also a recipient of the Math Olympiad Award, and is currently serving as Chair Elect of the ASEE (American Society of Engineering Education) Mid-Atlantic Conference. He also serves as an NSF (National Science Foundation) review panelist.
My Courses
This course is an overview of the database design process in the context of the System Development Methodology (Life Cycle). The three main phases in database design, namely: conceptual, using Entity Relational Diagram (ERD) and Unified Modeling Language (UML); logical, using the relational model, and physical, using a Database Management System (DBMS), are covered. The basics of the relational data model (concepts of relation, attribute, primary key, and foreign key) are reviewed, and the mapping of the conceptual model to the relational model is discussed. Advanced concepts of relational theory (normalization, denormalization) are included. The Physical model of the database is built in the DBMS. Although students should be familiar with SQL from the prerequisite, a review of SQL statements will be included Prerequisites: CST 1204 with a grade of C or higher Acceptable substitute for CST 3506 or CST 3508
Oracle Database Administration CST4714
This course is absolutely for beginners. This is applicable for those who would want to learn Oracle Database 11g. This course would be ideal for.. (a) Students who would like to jump into the world of Database Administration. (b) Students who would like to learn about Database concepts (c) Students who would like to get into Oracle Database Administration as soon as they finish their college. This course is mainly based on powerpoint slides and video tutorials.
Story-telling in Interactive Fiction Games – FYLC FA2017
This First Year Learning Community includes CST 1100 (Intro to Computer Systems), CST 1102 (Problem Solving with Computer Programming), and ENG 1101 (English Composition I), and is designed to leverage all three courses to produce an Interactive Fiction game prototype and a Game Design Document. It’s all about story-telling — characters, their world, and their interactions with that world in a non-linear narrative of our own creation.
