This hybrid will provide an overview of the basic principles in development from prenatal to adolescent. We will review trends in contemporary research on physical, intellectual, emotional, and social development from birth through adolescence and the impact of the interaction of these various aspects of development upon the individual as a whole. Major issues examined in this course include the relation of nature to nurture, of genes to environment, of the developing individual to the changing social context, and of mental health to school performance. We will begin with the history of developmental psychology, and research methodologies. We will discuss the contexts in which children live, with a particular focus on family, peers, and the larger cultural context. Then, we will examine physical, cognitive, and socio-emotional development, with consideration of the cultural context, and focusing within each on examples of current research.

The thing that made me to come up with this toy is one of my observation in my neighborhood mosque. ( That is place mostly we socialize with other people)After the congregational prayer I have seen children playing toys alone and obviously without sharing with each other. So I have been thinking of one thing so that all children in my neighborhood mosque can play together an at the same socialize, share speak and of course learn more as they grow up. As Vigotsky says that language is important tool in our learning. It also encourages parents to interact with their children. For ex: We watched the films ” Preschool in Three Cultures “. We all noticed in the Chinese preschool one child have attention deficiency affected his whole behavior.
Furthermore we have also discussed in the class the theory of brain plasticity and we watched a film Genie documentary. After watching that,I wanted to came up with one good idea that I am going to add something to my designed toy so that children can improve their long and short term memory. ( Shank claims that we can achieve to whatever we want but for that we have to strive and work hard on it. ) The toy is going to have a small paper cards where orders/ instruction will be written. The child looks at the instruction and card will be taken away. In the process the one may try to remember the instructions he read or he will be read and do the tasks in the order.
