Alice Garcia’s Profile
Hello, my name is Alice Garcia, I’m currently majoring in Communication Design. This is currently my second semester at city tech, I want to continue to learn more skills along the way and develop more from my previous semester. Before my decision to major into Communication Design I wanted to major in computer science but my thoughts changed when I convinced myself that the major wasn’t for me to do computing. Communication Design on the other hand, made me remember that I always liked to draw even if they were just doodles on paper. Drawing was probably just a hobby back then but now, I think of it as my inspiration on what I would like to continue to study. When I think of drawing I feel free to do as much as I want even though I thought about my foundation drawing being too hard, it was more or less becoming easy for me to learn and take it as a new achievement into my major.
During my last 2 years of high school I recall being involved into an activity after school. I had not only learned about photography but also about logos that we see/use in our daily life. Although I learned to play around on some websites in which you can place a word text into a shirt or other items of your choice. I got to play around with photoshop and perfect on images. Communication Design has made me learn a variety of things I can do and create if I put my mind into it. Sometimes when I can’t think of new ideas, I always try to find inspiration to be able to work it out into the computer. I learned to work hard and not give up on what I want to accomplish. The communication is shown through the art done by people such as me and other creators of their work piece.

COMD1112 D114 Digital Media Foundations Spring 2020 Goetz
This course introduces students to core concepts in the media field including color theory, design and production terminology, reproduction processes, file formats and substrates. During the semester, students will complete three pages of their own ePortfolio web site, complete a print design project and one video project. Lectures will provide students with a historical perspective of the media field as well as discussing current practices and future trends.

COMD1127 Type and Media, FA2019 D137
This is a foundation course in typography with emphasis on using type for a range of industry related applications from print to interactive. Students will be introduced to principles of type design and terminology including: variations of type structure, anatomy, font usage, grid, leading, kerning, tracking and alignment. Students will learn industry standard software such as InDesign on the Macintosh operating system.
COMD 1200 Graphic Design Principles II
This course explores creative visual thinking and its importance to communication design. Students experiment with image-making techniques and learn to use graphic tools to communicate concepts and ideas. The course emphasizes the integration of communication concepts, type and graphics and their relationship to multiples discloses. Students develop projects from thumbnails through final presentations.
