Alan Zhao’s Profile
My name is Alan Zhao and I am in the Advertising and Graphic Design major. I recently graduated from High School Of Economics and Finance in City Hall, Manhattan. Though I went to an economics and finance school, I didn’t want to do that for a living. I felt that I had more of a creative imagination rather than being in the office doing computer work all day. I wanted to be more than that. However, during my high school years, I did not have a clue on whatever I wanted to do in life. It was only around the last year where I really had to figure out what I wanted to major in. Since drawing and doodling was something I did in my pastime, I thought why not be in a major that lets you do that? While I was thinking about that, I thought about adding computers into it since it was the age of technology. So that is where I am at today.
While being in the Advertising and Graphic Design major, I wanted to learn to do many things. But probably the most interesting one for me would be gaming visual and graphics. While being in college and the advertising and graphic design major, I hope that I can learn and achieve something that can be very useful for me in the future. Maybe someday, I’ll be working with the big dogs such as Activision, EA, Microsoft and many more. But I have to start from the basics and try to work my way up. Besides from that, maybe I would go into typography or digital photography, which perks my interest. I will try my hardest to achieve the things I want and be a better person by doing so.
My Courses
COMD4900HD96 FALL 2017 Internship
Student is assigned to find fieldwork/study situations of approximately eight hours per week at an internship site approved by the Department Internship instructor. Approved Sites include advertising agencies, graphic design firms corporate design offices, publications art departments, photography or illustration studios, TV or multimedia production companies. Students will be required to keep a learning journal of their internship in the form of a blog using Openlab. A portion of the class will be devoted to presenting and sharing experiences with classmates. Students will learn how to assess their talents, update their resume, and promote themselves and their work through social networks during class meetings. Students will be required to setup and maintain at least two social media networks such as: Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest.
GRA1111 D308 Graphics Workshop SP2014
This course introduces students to core concepts in the graphic communications field including color theory, design and production terminology, reproduction processes, file formats and substrates. During the semester, students will complete three pages of their own ePortfolio web site. Lectures will provide students with a historical perspective of the graphic communications field as well as discussing current practices and future trends.
