Bio

Hi my name is Ashley and I’m 19 years old. I was born and raised in Woodside, New York. I graduated from the High School of Applied Communication which is located in Long Island City. I am now in my second year in City Tech majoring in Communication Design. My interest in graphic design started in high school.

I’ve always had an interest in art during my school years. I’ve always loved drawing, but I wasn’t passionate about it. During my years in school, I really didn’t know what I wanted to major in college. At the time I wasn’t passionate to do a certain thing. But during my junior year, I had to take a graphic design class. As I learned more from that class, I actually enjoyed the subject. That’s how I decided what I wanted to major in college.

“I went into photography because it seemed like the perfect vehicle for commenting on the madness of today’s existence.” — Robert Mapplethorpe This course surveys the history of photography from its beginnings in the early nineteenth century to the present. We will examine the use of photography for aesthetic, documentary, and “scientific” purposes, stylistic shifts in photography related to aesthetic concerns, and varying interpretations of subject matter based on social and cultural concerns at specific moments in history. We will also consider the relationship between photography and the visual arts in general, which culminates with the primacy of photography as a medium by the late twentieth century.
